DESCRIPTION

“This small house designed by Pritzker prize winning architect Eduardo Souto de Moura is in fact a piece of jewelry. Everything in the house is thought in terms of comfort and detail. The big skylight exclusively designed by Souto de Moura for this house allows you the unforgettable experience of being under the stars.

The decoration is also part of this project with designed furniture from Souto de Moura combined with design pieces from Adalberto Dias, Alvar Aalto, Álvaro Siza Vieira, Busk Hertzog, Jasper Morrison and art pieces by José Pedro Croft.

The house is an open space in a single floor for 2-4 guests. The main area has a dining area, a sitting area with two sofas that convert into beds, and a double bed just under the big skylight. The small kitchen area with closet, and the bathroom - ensuite bath with jacuzzi tub and shower - have also their own skylight.

Located in a classified heritage site in Foz do Douro, with narrow streets and century old granite and tile houses, the Sky Loft lies on a quiet residential street away from the bustle but not far from the city center and very close to the waterfront where the Douro river meets the Atlantic ocean.

It is also next to the most beautiful garden in Porto - the Passeio Alegre garden - with a beautiful restroom with Art Nouveau-tile covered walls, a fountain, the café known as ‘Suisse chalet’ and a bandstand where you can enjoy live music occasionally. Every Sunday there is a street market.

The proximity with the sea makes it an excellent location to relax and enjoy the sundown at one of the many beach bars. Or if you like sports, there is a wonderful path to run, bike and just walk towards downtown or to the beach.

Portugal’s largest urban park – Parque da Cidade - and several blue-flag beaches are close by. Surfers will find waves at the neighbouring town of Matosinhos.

All forms of public transit are within a few minutes walking distance. The old No 1 tram takes its way along the waterfront from Foz into central Porto, from where you can explore the Unesco World Heritage historic center on foot.

The Sky Loft is a space of architectural excellence that offers the possibility of enjoying the city in a unique atmosphere.” Brandao Costa Lima

WHAT WE LOVE

We stayed here for 1 night in January, 2018

The entrance.  The front door, side window and steps are all exquisitely detailed, which gives you the feeling you are entering somewhere special.

The skylight. Right above the bed. Brilliant! Like sleeping under the stars.

Architecture, in a small space. Everything is thought out, including the perfectly curated furnishings. The owners describe it as a “piece of jewelry”. Perfect!

The bathroom. Unexpectedly large and lined with beautiful, local stone. Super lux!

The location. Near the water in the quaint Foz do Douro neighborhood, a former port for fishermen. It’s an easy walk to parks, cafes and more incredible architecture by Eduardo Souto de Moura.
